Year Three Newsletter
Year 3 newsletter – Spring Term 2019
Thank you for your support during our first term. We are looking forward to starting back to school in 2019 and starting some new and exciting topics.
Our focuses for this term will be ‘Whatever the Weather’, which involves the children learning about different types of weather and comparing the weather in the UK to another country in the world. In addition, in Science, the children will learn about light and magnets.
The children will also experience working with the Hippodrome theatre and creating a performance, which will take place towards the end of January. As part of this, the children will be attending the Hippodrome on Tuesday 22nd January to show their performance, as well as seeing the pantomime.
Swimming will continue on Monday and groups will remain the same until the second half of the term, when groups will change. You will be notified of these changes in due time.
PE will continue to take place on Monday and Friday, so please ensure that PE kits are in school at the start of every week. Forest School will continue on Fridays, so please ensure that children have suitable outdoor wear in school every week.
During this term, the children will also have the opportunity to consolidate learning from their previous year, linking to the key core areas:
Guided reading – We will be focusing on a range of texts to develop the children’s reading skills. Some of these texts may link to the science and geography, and will include fiction and non-fiction texts. The author of the term will be Francesca Simon.
Literacy – We will be focusing on writing a range of texts, linking to different genres, as well as consolidating knowledge of spellings and sentence structures each week. Spelling tests will be carried out once a week in literacy groups and homework will be handed out on a Thursday, including the weekly spellings to practice. Homework will then need to be handed in by Tuesday.
Numeracy – Our focus this term will be to consolidate knowledge and application of addition and subtraction. We will be introducing multiplication and division written methods and applying them to number problems.
We look forward to continuing this year and having the opportunity to support your child’s learning.
