We hope that you have had a restful holiday and are ready for some hard work!
Spring Term Themes
The themes for this term will be ‘The World around Us’ and ‘Build It’’. We will be exploring our local and immediate environments and observe the similarities and differences between them. We will be reading lots of different stories (The Snowman, Dear Zoo, Chinese New Year, Were going on a Bear Hunt, The Three Little Pigs). Children will explore these topics through artwork, stories and circle times.
In Literacy, we will be rehearsing Phase 2 sounds and introducing early Phase 3 letters and sounds. We will have more of a focus on blending and segmenting sounds in simple and complex words/sentences to write as well as read them. There will also be more emphasis on using terminology, such as, digraphs, grapheme, phoneme and trigraphs as we begin to teach phase 3 letters and sounds!
In Numeracy we will focus on one more/ one less, simple addition/subtraction as well as continuing with practical counting, length, height and money.
All children have a set designated day for them to read their books and check homework. Please ensure that the yellow ‘Reading Together’ diaries are kept up to date with comments about your child’s reading. Just a reminder that unless there is a comment in the home reading book their reading book will not be changed. Thanks for your support with this.
Your child will be taking part in P.E lessons every week. Please ensure that all kit and uniform is clearly named to prevent any confusion during changing times! Please remember your child will need to bring the correct kit; a green t-shirt, black shorts, socks and black school pumps.
Please remember to provide your child with a piece of fruit or vegetable for their morning snack. Also, please ensure that your child has water in a named water bottle.
Just a reminder that the Reception gates will be open at 08:45 in the morning and registers will be submitted at 08:55. Any children who arrive after this time will be marked in as late. The gates open at 3:20 in the afternoon. If you have any concerns or require additional information about your child during these times please speak to the members of staff that are on the gate in the morning or could you please wait until all children have been dismissed at home time, if you wish to speak to the teacher.
Additionally, just a reminder, if your child has an accident and they borrow spare school uniform, could you please wash and return it as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to continuing to work with you and your child.
